Positive News Media, Mindanao's Biggest Culinary School Opens in July 2009



DAVAO CITY, March 6 (PNA) -- The biggest culinary school in Mindanao and with state-of-the-art facilities, Institute of International Culinary and Hospitality Entrepreneurship (IChef), is expected to operate by July, 2009.

Owned and established by Joji Ilagan Career Foundation, Inc., the five-storey building will have three big kitchens that can accommodate 300 students.

Foundation president Joji Ilagan-Bian said the building worth P37 million construction is ongoing at De Jesus Street in this city will be turned over in June.

She said IChef will offer lower tuition of P250,000 to P290,000 a year than what being offered in Manila of P400,000 to P600,000.

Bian said the school is expected to cater students here as they found out that many of those studying in the culinary schools in Manila are from Mindanao.

To ensure that the school is of international standard, she said the instructors are from Manila, Germany and Australia.

Bian said the in the culinary program that she opened last year in partnership with Technical and Further Education (TAFE) of New South Wales Western Sydney Institute with 150 students, 60 of them will be graduate this year and all for migration to Australia.

She said these students are taught based on the Australian curriculum and they will graduate with Certificate issued by the New South Wales Western Sydney Institute.

She said they will also partner with entrepreneurs here for the dormitory facilities to accommodate the students from other places.
