ICHEFs JICC 2014 Semifinalists Named


November 15, 2014 is not just a typical Saturday for the third year and fourth year public and private high school students, for it meant moving on to the next stage towards victory. The Elimination Round of the Junior ICHEF Culinary Challenge 2014(JICC)-Fire It UP! The Asian Culinary Journey, Culinary Edition indeed became a mixture of happiness, excitement and a pinch of nervousness.
 
Out of the 44 third and fourth year high school students from different schools in Davao Region and other neighboring areas like Tagum and Digos (Brokenshire College of Toril, Davao Wisdom Academy, University of Immaculate Concepcion (HS), Davao Christian High School, Precious International school of Davao, Phil. Nikkei Jin Kai International School, Stella Maris Academy of Davao, Holy Cross of Davao College, Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School, St. Mary’s College of Tagum, Bernardo D. Carpio National High School, Rizal Special Education Learning Center, Ateneo De Davao University, Holy Cross Academy of Digos, and Davao City Special National High School) who registered for the JICC, only 23 were chosen to move on to the semifinals which will be held this Saturday, November 22, 2014. 
 
During the elimination round, each JICC participant presented their culinary masterpieces to the judges. Each of them not only displayed their creativity and inventiveness, but also displayed their prowess upon answering the mind boggling questions of the chefs who judged their works. 
 
In the end, 23 students reaped what they have sown, and the other participants went home with such precious memories and lessons that they will forever cherish.
 
The Junior ICHEF Culinary Challenge (JICC) 2014 -Culinary Edition dubbed as “Fire It Up! The Asian Culinary Journey” is a culinary competition amongst upcoming high school students in Davao City and Mindanao (specifically 3rd and 4th year high school students ages 15-17 years old). This competition will give young aspiring chefs the chance to showcase their culinary talents and skills. Also, ICHEF believes in cultivating the city’s young chefs and this competition will give them an arena to hone their skills and this will serve as a stepping stone for their future careers. 
 
Educational scholarships amounting to half a million pesos awaits all the winners. The grand prize is 200,000 worth of culinary scholarship from the Joji Ilagan Group of Companies. The first runner up will receive 150,000 worth of culinary scholarship while the other runner ups will receive 75,000 and 25,000 worth culinary scholarships respectively. 
 
The semi final round will be this November 22, 2014. The finalists who can move on to the final round will experience the one of a kind training with the chefs this November 29, 2014 and the most awaited final round will be this December 6, 2014 at Abreeza Mall, activity Center, Davao City.
