ICHEF Launches JICC 2014


The school heads and teachers from different public and private high schools all over Davao region gathered in the ICHEF Pavilion last September 19, 2014 for the launching of the only school based culinary competition amongst high school students, the Junior ICHEF Culinary Challenge 2014, dubbed as “Fire It Up! The Asian Culinary Journey. This is a part of ICHEF’s community service and advocacy to give the youth a chance to showcase their talents. JICC is the exciting annual culinary challenge for young chefs who are 3rd year and 4thyear public and private high school students.
 
This competition will give young aspiring chefs the chance to showcase their culinary talents and skills. Total of half a million pesos will be given as scholarship vouchers to the winners. The grand winner will be granted a culinary scholarship in ICHEF worth Php 200, 000.00.
 
The briefing and orientation will be this November 15, 2014. The elimination round will be this November 22, 2014 while the semi final round will be this November 29, 2014. The finalists who can move on to the final round will experience the one of a kind training with the chefs this December 6, 2014 and the most awaited final round will be this December 13, 2014.
 
The program started at exactly 4:00 pm. It was formally opened by Ms. Arlene Ozoa, ICHEF School director. During the launching, the JICC 2014 brief history and some guidelines were also discussed.
 
The previous winners on the JICC, namely Ralph Angelo Mascardo (JICC 2012 Grand winner) and Joshua Agawin (JICC 2012 Runner Up) gave their inspiring words as to how the competition helped them in pursuing their passion and enhancing their culinary skills.
 
The launching was also graced by the JIB Chair, Ms. Joji Ilagan Bian, Ms. Nicole Hao Bian (VP for Education Development) and some friends in the culinary and hospitality field as well as some friends in the academe.
 
The launching ended with a palatable High Tea Party, in which the food is prepared by the 2nd Year ICHEF Students.

ICHEF believes in cultivating the city’s young chefs and this competition, the JICC 2014, will once more give them an arena to hone their skills and this will serve as a stepping stone for their future careers.
